Lou Marafioti Trophy

Lou Marafioti Trophy

This competition is a Prints only competition.  There is NO digital image section.

The competition for the LOU MARAFIOTI TROPHY is held annually for the most outstanding Panoramic Landscape and/or Panoramic Seascape.

  1. Images previously submitted in this competition are not eligible again ie, each print/digital image may only be submitted to this competition once, regardless of how it scores and regardless of whether it has or has not been entered in the monthly competitions.

  2. The competition shall be open to all financial members.

  3. Entries shall not count toward aggregate points or awards.

  4. Members may enter up to three (3) images in each category ie, up to three (3) colour prints and up to three (3) monochrome prints.  This is a maximum of six (6) images per member.

  5. Prints can be presented mounted or unmounted.

  6. The back of the prints must clearly be marked with the title of the image and the name of the entrant.

  7. Images are not allowed to be created in whole or in part by generative software (frequently referred to as Artificial Intelligence or simply AI).

  8. All elements of an image must originate as a photograph taken by the entrant using a camera. Images may not incorporate identifiable elements produced by anyone else (for example: clip art, replacement skies or stock images).

Definition

A panoramic image refers to pictures with an aspect ratio that is greater than normal. The image must be of a Landscape or Seascape (as per John Addison definition).

The panoramic photo may be horizontal or vertical.  A minimum long to short ratio of 3:1 will apply (ie, if an image is 60cm on its longest side, it cannot be more than 20cm on its shortest side).

The maximum presentation length (including mat) is 1 metre; and the minimum image length is 40cm. ‘Length’ applies to the longest side.

In addition, as for the John Addison Memorial Trophy: -

Landscape: A picture featuring the natural scenery of the terrain.  Buildings, people or animals may be included providing it or they are subordinate to the scene depicted in the Photograph.

Seascape: A picture in which the sea or waves predominate. Coastal features or the shore line may be included to a lesser degree.

By virtue of submitting an image, the entrant certifies the work as their own and the original RAW/JPEG image may be requested by the Club for validation.

Judging

The committee shall appoint a competent person or persons to act as judge and critique.

Each entry will be awarded a score of 1 to 10. The highest scoring image across all three categories will be declared the winner. In the event of a tied score, the tied images will be presented to the judge again and the winner will be at the judge’s discretion.

Please read the How to enter a Competition Page before submitting your images to the competition.
