Condition of Entry

It is a condition of competition entry that images gaining either highly commended or merit classification may, at the discretion of the Committee,  be displayed on the Adelaide Camera Club website and/or entered into Interclub and/or international club competitions on behalf of the Adelaide Camera Club.

Only financial members of the Club can enter club competitions.

Types of Club Competitions

The Adelaide Camera club offers three main types of competitions,

  1. Monthly competitions where awards are allocated to all high scoring images.  In addition, points are assigned to images not eligible for awards.

    Points awarded by the judges during the monthly competitions are tallied for an Aggregate Trophy presented at the end of the year.

  2. Trophy competitions where a trophy is awarded to the highest scoring image.  No other awards or points are offered in a Trophy competition.  

  3. Interclub competitions with local and international clubs.  Entries for these competitions are selected by the committee from winning images of previous monthly competitions. 

Competitions - Organisation

  1. Competitions are scheduled according to the club programme.

  2. Competition organisers are appointed to receive image entries, record entries and awards and be responsible for presenting entries to a judge for final assessement.

  3. The president or judging director appoints a judge for each competition.

In addition, at the end of the calendar year, the club hosts an Annual Exhibition where the rules and entry categories differ somewhat to the other competitions.

Objectives

The objectives of competitions are to:

  1. Allow members the opportunity of viewing and comparing their work to those of others.

  2. Select exhibits which have been adjudged of sufficient pictorial and technical quality to receive merit or highly commended certificates.

  3. Enable discussion of members images with the view to providing feedback for improvement.

Grades (does not apply to trophy competitions)

Print and digital image competitions shall be conducted in two grades, namely ‘A’ (advanced) and ‘B’ (novice) grades. Members commence in ‘B’ grade and advance to ‘A’ grade.

A ‘B’ grade member is promoted to ‘A’ grade if they have received ten (10) merit certificates in print and digital competitions combined. This progression can be immediate or delayed until the end of the year.

In the event of a dispute with regard a members grade assignment, the decision of the committee is final.

“Silver Star” and “Gold Star” Members

Any member obtaining fifteen (15) merit certificates in either a print or digital section in the ‘A’ grade monthly competitions shall be designated “Silver Star Member” for that particular section.

Any member obtaining fifteen (15) merit certificates in either a print or digital section in the ‘A’ grade monthly competitions shall be designated “Gold Star Member” for that particular section.

The member must apply for this honour and needs to supply a copy of their merit and top merit certificates. The information may be submitted at any time during the year. The Stars are presented at the Annual Presentation Night.

Other Considerations and Requirements

Image Creation, Artificial Intelligence and Ownership

Images are not allowed to be created in whole or in part by generative software (frequently referred to as Artificial Intelligence or simply AI). 

All elements of an image must originate as a photograph taken by the entrant using a camera. Images may not incorporate identifiable elements produced by anyone else (for example: clip art, replacement skies or stock images).

By virtue of submitting an image, the entrant certifies the work as their own and the original RAW/JPEG image may be requested by the Club for validation.

Requirements

  • All images must be captured using digital or film process.  These may be manipulated later using computer software or at the printing stage in the case of film capture.

  •  All elements of an image must originate as a photograph taken by the entrant using a camera.  Images may not incorporate identifiable elements produced by anyone else (for example: clip art, replacement skies or stock images).

  •  All images, including portion(s) used in montage etc, must have been taken by the member.

  •  No title or identification of the author shall be visible anywhere on the face of an image, print mat or mount entered in the Exhibition.

  • Important: The committee reserves the right to withdraw an image not complying with the rules.

Resubmitting Similar Images and Prints

Substantially similar images by the same author may not be entered in competitions, regardless of categories and format.  PLEASE NOTE THAT THE SAME IMAGE CANNOT BE SUBMITTED TO MORE THAN ONE SECTION OF A COMPETITION.  Changing the image from colour to monochrome, submitting to a different section, or changing the image name, does not constitute a new image and will not be accepted for judging.

Copyright

The Club accepts that the copyright of each image remains with the photographer, however entries may be duplicated or copied, with permission, for the Adelaide Camera Club historical collection and/or website or any other websites affiliated with the Adelaide Camera Club, including, but not limited to the Adelaide Camera Club blog, the Adelaide Camera Club Facebook page and the SAPF website.  Entries may also be included for use in Club sets to represent the Adelaide Camera Club in exhibitions and/or competitions.

Photography of competition images for competition purposes are not to be photographed without the author’s permission.
