Trophy Competitions
The club holds 5 Trophy competitions annually. These are as follows:

Important: Any images submitted previously in a Trophy Competition are not eligible for entry in current or any future Trophy Competitions, regardless of the score achieved previously.
Eric Robertson Trophy for Portraiture
The competition for the ERIC ROBERTSON TROPHY shall be held annually for the most outstanding portrait of a human or human beings.
Members may enter up to three (3) images in each category ie, up to three (3) digital images, up to three (3) colour prints and up to three (3) monochrome prints. This is a maximum of nine (9) images per member.

Definition
Portraiture is photography of a person or group of people that displays the expression, personality and mood of the subject. The focus of the photograph is usually the person’s face, although the entire body and the background or context may be included.
A portrait of a human person or persons is defined as follows:
A likeness of a person, especially one showing the face.
It may include more than one person, but preferably not more than two.
It may show all or part of the person ie, may range from tightly cropped face to full length figure.
It may include settings and objects pertinent to the nature of the subject.
The subject should not be engaged in any activity to the total exclusion of the viewer.
The following examples would not be acceptable as portraits:
A figure study where the portrayal of the figure is the dominant theme of the photograph.
A photograph where the subject is actively engaged in any activity to the total exclusion of the viewer eg a football player taking a mark.
A landscape where a figure is included but the landscape is dominant.
Entrants are urged to use common sense in assessing whether or not an image conforms to this definition. If in doubt, consult with the committee.

Entries are limited to a maximum of six (6) images per member. Although monochrome and colour digital images may be entered, there are no separate sections.
Definition
The definition of “creative” or “altered reality” covers photographs that display a novel effect because of an unusual combination of objects and/or viewpoint. They are images that have been modified during or after exposure. The image must have a photographic base with the original work being exposed by the entrant.

Iris Millikan Trophy
This is a Digital Image Competition only, no Prints will be accepted.
The competition for the IRIS MILLIKAN TROPHY shall be held annually for the most outstanding creative image. It is awarded to the best Electronic Digital Image of a Creative or Experimental nature.
The image submitted would have been manipulated by post processing software or other means and therefore will not be a true representation of the original image.
The competition is the highlight both the skills of the member in image manipulation as well as the artistic quality of the final image.
The manipulation must be undertaken by the author.
John Addison Memorial Trophy
The competition for the JOHN ANDERSON MEMORIAL TROPHY is held annually for the most outstanding Landscape and/or Seascape.
Members may enter up to three (3) images in each category ie, up to three (3) digital images, up to three (3) colour prints and up to three (3) monochrome prints. This is a maximum of nine (9) images per member.

Definition
Landscape: A picture featuring the natural scenery of the terrain. Buildings, people or animals may be included providing it or they are subordinate to the scene depicted in the Photograph.
Seascape: A picture in which the sea or waves predominate. Coastal features or the shore line may be included to a lesser degree.

Definition
An image featuring an expansive or panoramic view of a Scape (Landscape, Seascape or Cityscape). Generally a scape is defined as a ‘vista’ or ‘broad view’ of the subject.
A landscape is an image of natural inland scenery displayed in a pictorial fashion. It may include evidence of man, people, animals and even part of the sea, but these features must not dominate the image.
A seascape is an image of natural coastal scenery, a wave study or an image of the open sea. People, boats and items related to these may be present. but these features must not dominate the image.
The urban equivalent of a landscape is a cityscape depicting the built form and shape of a city or town (or one of its parts) through a general or broad view of buildings and/or streets. Architectural detail of one or more buildings is not considered a cityscape. It may include evidence of man, people, animals and even part of the sea or surrounding land, but these features must not dominate the image.
Lou Marafioti Trophy
This competition is a Prints only competition. There is NO digital image section.
The competition for the LOU MARAFIOTI TROPHY is held annually for the most outstanding Panoramic Landscape, Seascape or Cityscape.
Members may enter up to three (3) images in each category ie, up to three (3) colour prints and up to three (3) monochrome prints. This is a maximum of six (6) images per member.
The accepted definition of a panorama is a minimum of 3:1 aspect ratio (long side: short side). The image may be stitched and/or cropped from multiple or single captures and at any focal length. The maximum presentation length, including mat, is 50 × 30 cm.

Vince Calo Perpetual Trophy
The VINCE CALO PERPETUAL TROPHY shall be held annually for the most outstanding portrait of a human or human beings.
It shall be open to ‘B’ grade members only.
Entries shall not count toward aggregate points or awards.
Members may enter up to three (3) images in each category ie, up to three (3) digital images, up to three (3) colour prints and up to three (3) monochrome prints. This is a maximum of nine (9) images per member.

Judging
Entries are judged by ‘A’ grade members.
Each entry will be awarded a score of 1 to 10. The highest scoring image across all three categories will be declared the winner. In the event of a tied score, the tied images will be presented to the judge again and the winner will be at the judge’s discretion.
